Sailing Pistakee for Over 100 Years
Our mission is to develop and encourage an interest in sailing and boating; to conduct racing and regattas and to preserve Pistakee Yacht Club facilities and grounds as a gathering place on Pistakee Lake for our members and guests.
How we support Our Mission
Monday Night Cruise Sailing
Skippers of sailboats that accommodate crew and passengers gather at the club on Monday nights at 5:00. We divide passengers/crew among the boats and then launch and go out to enjoy an evening sailing around the lake. This is a great way for members that don’t have a sailboat to get out on the water and experience sailing.
Wednesday Night Dinghy Racing
Dinghy racing is a joint activity with the Pistakee Yacht Club and Community Sailing School @ Pistakee. The sailing school reviews how to race at 4:30 and then sets a course and conducts a series of races. Both sailing school students and PYC dinghy sailors participate in the racing. Spectators often come out and watch from shore or from larger sailboats while staying clear of the course. Dinghy racing is limited to boats under 17ft for safety reasons.
Sunday Morning C Scow Racing
There is a long-standing tradition of racing C Scows at Pistakee Yacht Club. Skippers gather at 9:00 am. The racing starts at 10:00 am on the main lake. Members get involved by crewing or helping out on the race committee boat.
Annual Fish and Weed Regatta with Wonder Lake
The first weekend after Labor Day the annual Fish and Weeds regatta is held. Every other year it is held at Pistakee Yacht Club. This is a fun opportunity to race with a bigger fleet.
Sunday Morning Fall Sailing Series
For the fall series we race around the lake sailing around marked buoys. The start and finish lines are the main pier of the clubhouse. This is lots of fun because generally we have good winds and less boat traffic.
Hosting the Community Sailing School @ Pistakee
The sailing school helps those interested in learning to sail get started. They have classes for all levels and ages. They also have a wide variety of boats from small dinghies to cruising sailboats. You choose and they will get you sailing. Learn more on their website.
Accommodating Boating Activity
The yacht club has facilities to launch small and medium sized sailboats, dock space to accommodate both sail and power boats on member-provided boatlifts and storage space for boats and trailers for day sailing and off season storage of boats on trailers.
