Race Scoring
Race scoring will be as follows per US Sailing's "The Racing Rules of Sailing" (i.e., sections A4 & A5.3).
Scoring of races will be on the "Low Point System". Therefore, your place at the finish will dictate the points you will receive (e.g., First place = 1, Second place = 2 etc.).
DNS (Did Not Start) A boat that came to the starting area but did not start, did not sail the course, did not finish, retired or was disqualified, shall be scored points for the finishing place one more than the number of boats that started. Example: 5 boats started; DNS points is 6.
DNC (Did Not Compete) A boat that did not come to the starting area shall be scored the number of boats in the fleet +1. Example: 8 boats in the fleet; DNC points is 9.
If a skipper gives up a race to help on the committee boat, that skipper will get their season average score for the races missed.
If a skipper sails in an off-site regatta causing them to miss club races, that skipper will get their season average score for the races missed. Season average scores will be update through out the season to reflect current standings.
If a skipper makes it out to the race course but has to retire from a race or races due to crew or boat mishap (e.g., sickness, rigging breaks etc.) then the missed race(s) will be scored as DNS.
Throw Outs
The throw out scale lets each skipper throw out (i.e., drop) one or more of their highest individual race scores. This is applicable when there is sufficient races in the series.
