Dinghy Sailing/Racing

Overview

Organized dinghy sailing is relativity new to Pistakee Yacht Club.  It started out informally with the dinghy sailors exchanging text messages on when they were going out sailing.  Next, they picked a regular night and started coordinating with the sailing school.  Dinghy night is now Wednesday at 5 o’clock.  The sailing school runs sailing practices where they either sail practicing maneuvers, sail to a destination and back or set a course for informal racing. The yacht club dinghy sailors are welcome to join in to these activities.

 Summer Series

Wednesday night dinghy sailing is in June, July and August.  You must be a social member of the club and pay the annual dinghy launch fee to launch a dinghy from the club.  The sailing school requires you to have taken lessons before you can sign up for dinghy night.

If the winds look good, we still use text messaging for impromptu dinghy sailing.

 Fleet

All types of dinghies under 16 feet in length are welcome.  The sailing school offers 420’s, Toppers and Sunfish.   There are a number of single types of boats in the fleet.  Since Sunfish are easy boats to rig and launch and are fun boats to sail, a number have been picked up on the used boat market.  There are now 5 Sunfish in our fleet.
